Neil Dansie – v Knox Grammar
A very hot and humid day with temperatures around the 36 degree mark but on the ground felt close to 50.
We played Knox Grammar in our last pool game and if we won, we were guaranteed a final spot on Friday. We won the toss and elected to field because we wanted the extra practice chasing and on a good wicket, fast outfield it was going to be a tough challenge. Good partnership bowling in the middle overs limited the stroke play of the Knox batters and they finished their 50 overs 4 – 213. A total we thought was very achievable.
McRae (2-47) was the pick of the bowlers with some excellent consistent line and lengths.
We batted very positive and maintained a strong 4-5 runs per over with Mitch Doolan battling the heat leading the way. He was unfortunately given out LBW on 98 and missed the century. He may have missed the statistic but more importantly he won the game for us. We eventually chased the score down in the 46th over but nervously lost a couple of wickets when the scores were tied. It was a very diligent and controlled run chase.
