Orienteering

Congratulations to Oliver Schubert, Gabriel Schubert and Will Barnes who represented the Darling Downs at the Queensland Orienteering Championships last weekend in what is possibly the toughest competition we’ve seen in recent history with students from 44 schools entering the competition. All three boys did a terrific job, running three courses including a sprint, a relay and long bush event. Congratulations also to Oliver for his selection in the Queensland Schools Orienteering Team. The team will compete at the 2019 Australian Schools Orienteering Championships, which will be held in Wagga Wagga in October as part of the Oceania 2019 Carnival.

Adventure Club: Girraween National Park with camping overnight – CANCELLED (Insufficient Interest)

Activity # 19-5
Activity Title: Girraween National Park, with overnight camping at Sommerville Valley (via Stanthorpe)
Overview: Girraween National Park boasts massive granite outcrops, balancing boulders, clear running streams and spectacular wildflowers in spring.

Golden wattles, yellow, red and purple pea flowers, dainty orchids and flannel flowers grow amid forests of red-gum, stringybark and blackbutt. Frogs, lizards and snakes rustle among the leaf litter. Brilliant turquoise parrots, yellow-tufted honeyeaters and superb fairy-wrens splash the granite-strewn countryside with colour, while red-necked wallabies, brush-tailed possums and spiny echidnas weave their way through the wonders of the woodland.
