Cricket – Round 1 wrap

Dear Cricket Community,

Congratulations to all involved in an extremely successful weekend of GPS Cricket. For the first time in over three years TGS had an overall win-loss record against BGS (13-10) which included some impressive team and individual performances.

The TGS 1st XI begun their campaign with a dominant bonus point victory, highlighted by some tight bowling to spinners, Paul Draheim (1 for 12 off 10 overs) and Mitch Doolan (2 for 21 off 10 overs). In reply, TGS were dominant in chasing down the 155 set by BGS. Tom Sippel in his 1st XI debut scored 54 and Doolan compiled a well made 71 not out. Well done men.

TGS 10A, after a strong pre-season began with a bang on Saturday. TGS scored 5-252 off just 38 overs and restricted BGS 10A to 9-127 in reply. Well done to the men of 10A and their Coaches, Mr Farrell and Mr Galvin. Hard work pays off.

Individual highlights from Round 1 include:

  • Fletcher Russell (9A) on debut for TGS took 3 for 34 off his 8 overs before guiding the side home with a mature 52 not out
  • Rex Tooley (10A) was the star of the show smashing 86 from just 45 balls
  • Oliver Chaffey (10B) who belted an unbeaten 90 from 63 balls.
