Toowoomba Grammar School

Chess Club

Chess is a recreational, co-curricular activity offering opportunities to represent the School or play socially.

Chess Club: The Chess club caters for students wishing to learn the art and tactics of chess and play their fellow students recreationally. The weekly lunchtime chess competition is proving extremely popular with boys flocking to play some friendly unrated matches with the chance to win some great prizes.

GPS Chess: Even though the GPS Chess season is concurrent with that of Basketball and Rugby, games are arranged so that any boy participating in either of these sports may also be a member of a Chess team. Each round of GPS Chess mirrors the Basketball/Rugby draw for that week. Games are held on Friday evening and boys are entered in one of six divisions. Training and practice sessions are held twice a week during the season and once a week in the off-season. A number of local tournaments are held in the off-season and boys are encouraged to sign up for these. Full coaching and instruction are offered for the GPS teams. Up-to-date information regarding GPS Chess including fixtures and team lists are located in the Sports Portal.
