Volleyball: QLD Representative – Ben Hood

Ben Hood (Yr 10) has made some significant headway in volleyball over the past 12 months. He is currently representing Queensland in the U15 Schoolboys team (selected from the state titles in May). QLD topped the table in this comp. going through undefeated. They played VIC yesterday in the semi-final and won in straight sets. The gold medal playoff is this morning at 9.30am SA time which is 10am QLD time against NSW. You can see the live link HERE.

Ben will further follow up this representative feat with his selection in the U17 QAS state team to compete in the Nationals in September. Fellow Grammarian, Hussein Yusaf will also play in that competition with the U14 team.

Kind regards

Eric Smith

Volleyball TVA success

The finals for the local Toowoomba Volleyball Association Premier League were played on the evening of Tuesday, 4 June. TGS had three teams amongst the top four of the Men’s A Reserve grade competition, a Year 12 team, a Year 10 team and a Year 9 team.

The Year 12 team played in the Bronze medal match and unfortunately lost in three close sets to a much improved Downlands opposition. The Year 10’s and 9’s played against each other for the Gold medal. The Year 9 team showed some of the fire and heart that made their Schools Cup weekend so successful, however, in the end the Year 10 team prevailed and Ben Hood was named as MVP for the season.

Volleyball: Schools’ Cup success

This past weekend, 31 May – 2 June, Toowoomba was host to the Queensland Volleyball Intermediate Schools Cup. This competition showcases some of the best school aged (Year 9 and Year 10) teams in the state with many participants from the south-east corner but also those as far as Proserpine in the central coast. This year TGS fielded three teams; Year 10 Division 1, Year 10 Division 2 and Year 9 Division 1.

DD Volleyball Success

The U15 Darling Downs volleyball side concluded the State Championships on Sunday morning by snatching the Bronze medal out of the hands of their opponents in a gripping five set match. The School collectively congratulates TGS members Ben Hood (captain), Tom Cocks, Hayden Kenny, Sam Noble and Ruben Geldenhuys. Ben Hood was also re-selected in the state team alongside another DD teammate. A great achievement for both boys.

Volleyball: Day 1 Darling Downs success

The Under 15 Boys Darling Downs Volleyball team has secured two victories on day one of the State Title Competition currently being held at Caloundra. Boasting four TGS young men the side kept the crowd on the edge of their seat playing out two five set matches against the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay.
