Toowoomba Grammar School

Rugby

Background

The School fields teams from the Under 11 through to Opens in the GPS Competition. Training is held twice a week and games are played on Saturdays at a variety of times and venues across the GPS Schools. Players must play in the age groups based on birth dates with the exception being players who make the 1st XV. These players are required to gain dispensation through Rugby Australia and the School, undergoing a variety of assessments to determine their eligibility to play above their age groups.

In Term 2 players in each age group are invited to trial as part of the ‘Rugby Development Squads’. These squads train twice a week in the mornings (6am-7;30am) throughout Term 2 and is aimed at developing the players’ ball skills, tackle technique, breakdown work and general patterns of play. Involvement in these squads is by invite only through the Director of Rugby however, for those involved, it is encouraged they also participate in Term 2 sport (Tennis, Cross Country, Football)
